Practical Course: App Evolution

This course is hybrid; we will meet in person but also conduct online meetings, depending on what best suits the team members and project partners. We will also adjust the time slots as needed to accommodate everyone. The weekly meetings will include assessments and feedback sessions.

In this course, students gain practical experience in the continuous development and enhancement of software applications and systems. They work on optimizing existing applications, implementing new features, and developing an understanding of long-term software project management.

They either develop their own app from the SE-Lab course, the AStA Campus App, or further develop a software system from research provided by us. For the former, they collaborate with an industry partner, for the latter with the AStA of RUB, and for the latter with a research assistant.

The “Campus App by AStA RUB” is an open-source software project by students for students. The work involves the technical and functional development of a production-ready mobile application based on Dart and Flutter, specifically the implementation of new features, maintenance, bug fixing, refactoring, testing, and the integration and further development of existing backend and interface structures.

In addition to a practical exam, a coursework assignment must be completed during this internship.

Requirements: Programming and software development skills, at least through participation in the courses Software Engineering (LV 212000) and Software Engineering Lab (LV 211500).
